I have recently returned home from a 1 week family holiday to Newquay and thought id share with you my thoughts on UK holidays. This is the 2nd year running we have holidayed in the UK as last year i was 30 + weeks pregnant. (We also have a dog).

Pros

  • Little disruption to routine

  • No stress about behaviour on a plane

  • Lots of activities for entertainment

  • Opportunity to explore more

  • Dogs are allowed

  • can be luxury or budget friendly

  • it doesn't matter if you forget anything

Cons

  • you cant guarantee the weather

  • you may be travelling for a long time

when it comes to deciding on your location i would recommend choosing somewhere with plenty of amenity's/activities so if the weather isn't the best you can still get out and do things. Newquay was perfect for us as it has a zoo, aquarium, farms, adventure play, beautiful beaches and coastal walks. We chose to stay in a house with Sykes cottages as it meant we could take the dog, had all the amenity's we needed and it was a nice homely environment for Reuben. By doing this you can also save money by eating in and making pack lunches. You can also of course eat out too.

We allowed Reuben to have his morning nap at the house so we had a nice bit of chill out time in the morning and then we went off and did activities as he only needs a little power snooze in the afternoon. This way Reuben's routine wasn't really disrupted in anyway and he was a happy boy for the duration of the holiday and could really take in his new experiences.

I personally feel like by holidaying in the UK i had a more relaxing time than i would have done abroad as i didn't have to worry about Reuben having enough sun protection on, playing near water, getting ill or being to hot. If we forgot anything we could just buy it there and we had no time differences or car seat queries to worry about.

I have loved exploring different parts of the UK the past two years. The UK is blessed with some beautiful places that you may not usually visit and its nice to explore the homeland a little bit more!

Don't get me wrong i love going abroad and we are hoping to go next year when Reuben is a little more independent but for this year as Reuben is fully on the move, into everything and has no fear/concept of danger it would have been to stressful.
