A letter to my son on your 1st birthday

My darling Reuben,

I cant quite believe that a whole year has passed since you came in to our lives. We waited so long to meet you and once you were here i couldn't quite believe you were ours. 10 little fingers, 10 little toes and a great set of lungs. From the moment you were placed on my chest my life changed in an instant. I felt an overwhelming rush of love that iv'e never felt before. I didn't have a clue what i was doing but i knew there and then in that moment that i would be there for you, protect you, care for you and love you with every ounce of my being for the rest of our time! My perfect little boy without a name.

In our year together we have grown and learnt so much about each other. We have developed an incredible bond, one that will never be broken. You make me laugh, you make me cry and although some days are incredibly hard the tough times make us stronger and help our bond to grow.

You have the cheekiest personality and you're a little monkey but i wouldn't have you any other way. I love your curiosity, your innocence, your lack of fear and how pure you are. I love that i'm your safe place and you will come to me for a cuddle if you're tired or upset.

I cant promise that you wont get hurt, experience heartache or pain, but i can promise to always be there for you, a shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold an ear to listen. You will always be my baby boy no matter how big you grow and my only hopes for you are to love, be happy, pave your own path and have enough confidence and self belief to follow your dreams.

Ill always be right behind you cheering you on!
