I can't believe it's been 3 months since Reuben turned 1. Time really is flying by. I thought I'd do another update post as we've seen some big changes in the past 3 months and it's nice to look back on to see how much he's changing.
Communication
In the past month or so we've seen a huge development in this area. Reuben now understands so much and can now say quite a few words (even if they're not perfect). Most importantly to him he can say no (whilst shaking his head) and more, when he isn't full. He also says gone with an arm action when he's finished and ta when prompted. He is beginning to understand instructions and knows when he shouldn't be doing something (that doesn't stop him doing it though). He says naana (banana), Dog, Cat, Duck, Dark, Hiya, Mama, Dada, Nana and pretty much gives everything a good go.
Social
Reuben is becoming quite social now, when we are out and about he smiles, waves and says hiya to everyone he see's. At swimming last week we were the only ones in the big pool and he was having a lovely time interacting with the lifeguard.
Motor skills
Reuben now runs everywhere, he doesn't do anything slowly and we're constantly telling him to slow down. He also loves to climb and will try to climb anything and everything. He is also partial to a little boogie, (although he dances like an old man). He loves to throw balls and has started to kick them. He is getting good with his spoon and fork but still prefers to use his hands.
Problem solving
Reuben can sort a few basic shapes unassisted and can stack cups and rings in the correct order and also nest cups. He plays with his stacking trains often which come with blocks and different shapes. He also loves posting different objects through different sized holes/slots.
Eating
Reuben is generally a very good eater but we have seen a few fussy periods the past 3 months, mainly down to teething as we have cut 7 teeth in 3 months! Reuben still loves his fruit and he's also very good with his veg. Meat and fish are a little hit and miss depending on his mood. He seems to favour strong flavours like curry and chilli. We all eat the same meals and eat together as a family. we're trying to set good examples for him and if he doesn't eat his food he doesn't get given an alternative.
Milk
Reuben now has 1-2 breastfeeds which are when he wakes up and potentially once in the night. He doesn't drink any other milk as he doesn't like it. I make sure he has plenty of dairy in his diet to meet his daily needs.
Tantrums
We have seen a fair few tantrums recently as Reuben is constantly testing the boundaries. I know this is healthy and good for them as they crave rules but it can be testing from time to time. It can also be quite funny and i really have to try not to laugh. (bad mum i know).
I feel so lucky to be able to watch Reuben grow and develop from day to day, we love going out exploring and i love to let him learn through play. He's started to sit on my lap and have a little chill time and give me cuddles which is lovely as he's never been super affectionate. He's always been a mummy's boy though.
These past few months iv'e really been reassured that we absolutely made the correct decision not to put him in nursery just before he turned one. He wasn't ready and he's developing beautifully with me by his side reaching and excelling all his milestones.
My curious, boisterous, energetic boy is growing in to such a character and every age brings something new and exciting.
